First day- Mission Accomplished!!!

We made it through the 1st day!! We started in Red Sand - I can't say that was the most pleasant experience. During the swim I was accompanied by many huge slime-balls (at first I thought they were gigantic boulders!!) and there was a pretty strong breeze giving Margie a workout to keep the kayak going straight. On a positive note, the water was warm (82) and I didn't need my wetsuit.
On a side note - if we post a lake where we are going to swim that someone knows is slime-ball filled, please give us a "heads up"  it would be greatly appreciated! :)

Lake 2 was White Sand (Thanks Fishers for letting us use your beach!). This was a much more enjoyable swim although I needed to keep moving to stay warm (didn't wear the wetsuit).

Lake 3 was Perch. Thanks to Rahn's and all the supporters there cheering us on. As you can see from the picture I wore my wetsuit for this one. I am a freeze baby and get cold easily. (And yes, Coach Hal, I need to keep my fingers together!).

No swims this weekend as I will be my kids biggest fan at their boat racing competiton (Go Hansen Racing!), but we will be back at it Monday. The plan is Upper and Middle Cullen.

Where to donate...

Only 2 weeks to go until start date!! - But who’s counting!! :)

Many people have been asking me how they can donate. We have three simple ways:
1) Donations can be made right on this blog (right side) through PayPal
2) Pledge sheets can be picked up at the YMCA
3) Checks can be dropped off or mailed (602 Oak Street, Brainerd, MN 56401) to the YMCA
*All checks should be made out to the Brainerd YMCA with a notation saying it is for the fundraiser swims.

We have gotten so much encouragement and backing - THANK YOU!! We are very excited to see what all comes of this! As far as we know, nothing like this has ever been done in our community before, so we have no idea what to expect. We’re hoping for great things, but even if we fall short of our big goal, all money donated will go for new equipment for our Aquatics Department benefiting many.

The first weeks of lakes have been planned. We will "stock up" (meaning we will do more than one per day) on lakes whenever possible so that we are sure to get in all 50 in 50 days. Thunderstorms, busy schedules and unplanned surprises may keep us out of the water on any given day. All swims will be late afternoons after work responsibilities are filled.

On June 29th, we are hoping to get three lakes in so we are off to a good start right away!! The lakes planned for that day are Red Sand, White Sand and Perch.

Thanks again for all your support!!
